Why live streaming has outlasted the pandemic

When COVID-19 restrictions first changed the way weddings happened in 2020 and 2021, we started live streaming ceremonies so that guests who could not travel could still be part of the day. What surprised us was that once restrictions lifted, couples kept asking for it.

The reason is simple. Queensland is a destination wedding magnet, and many couples have family scattered across Australia or overseas. Grandparents who are not well enough to fly, friends on the other side of the world, relatives who could not get leave from work – live streaming means none of them have to miss the moment. We have live-streamed dozens of weddings now, from Noosa hinterland chapels to Gold Coast beachfronts, and the response from families watching remotely is always the same: gratitude.

Live streaming is no longer a pandemic workaround. It is a genuine wedding service that gives couples peace of mind knowing everyone who matters can watch, wherever they are.

How it works on the day

Our live streaming setup runs alongside our standard film coverage, so there is nothing extra for you to think about on the morning of your wedding.

Here is what happens behind the scenes:

  • We arrive early and set up a dedicated streaming camera with a clear view of the ceremony space.
  • A separate audio feed captures the celebrant, your vows, and any readings or music clearly.
  • We connect to the internet using our own mobile broadband gear, with a backup connection standing by.
  • About 15 minutes before the ceremony, we start the private stream and confirm the link is live.
  • Your guests open the link in their browser and watch in real time, with no app downloads required.

After the ceremony, the stream recording is saved and provided to you. Guests who could not watch live, or who simply want to relive it, can view the recording at any time.

What you need to do (almost nothing)

One of the most common questions we hear is, "Do we need to organise anything for the live stream?" The answer is no. We handle the cameras, the audio, the internet connection, and the streaming platform.

All we need from you is a guest list of email addresses or phone numbers for the people you would like to invite to the stream. We send them a short message with the private link and the ceremony time. On the day, they click and watch.

If your venue has wi-fi, we will test it during our site visit. If it does not, or if the signal is unreliable, we bring our own connectivity. We have streamed from rural properties, beaches, and garden settings where there was no fixed internet at all.

Picture and sound quality

This is not a propped-up iPhone on a chair. We use a professional camera on a tripod with a wide, stable shot of the ceremony. The audio is captured through the same wireless microphone system we use for our wedding films, so remote guests hear every word clearly.

The stream is delivered in high definition. As long as your guests have a reasonable internet connection on their end, the picture is sharp and the audio is clean. We monitor the stream throughout the ceremony to catch any issues before they become problems.

Beyond the ceremony

While the ceremony is the most popular part to stream, we can cover other moments too. Many couples choose to include the reception speeches, the first dance, or even the cake cutting. Some have streamed the entire reception for a family member recovering from surgery or a friend watching from a different time zone.

We tailor the streaming schedule to your day. If you only want the ceremony, that is a simple, focused setup. If you want broader coverage, we plan camera positions and audio for each part of the event.

Booking live streaming with us

Live streaming can be added to any of our wedding film packages. If you are already booked with us for film or photography, adding a stream is straightforward. We recommend confirming at least four weeks before your wedding so we have time to check your venue and plan the technical details.

If you are curious about whether live streaming suits your day, get in touch. We are happy to walk you through the setup, show you what past streams have looked like, and help you decide what coverage makes sense for your guest list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do our guests need to download an app to watch?

No. We provide a private link that works in any web browser on phones, tablets, and computers. Guests simply click the link at the scheduled time.

What happens if the internet drops out during the ceremony?

We bring our own mobile broadband equipment and always have a backup connection ready. We also record locally, so you will always have the full ceremony on file.

Can we live stream the reception speeches as well?

Yes. We can stream any part of the day, including the ceremony, speeches, first dance, or all of the above.

How far in advance do we need to book live streaming?

We recommend booking at least four weeks before your wedding so we can plan the technical setup for your venue, but we have accommodated shorter lead times when needed.

Is the stream private or can anyone find it online?

Completely private. We use a password-protected link that only goes to the people you choose. Nothing is published publicly.
